"YMCA-YWCA
Camping Services is dedicated to values-based educational and recreational
programs for children of the Greater New York City area. Our camps serve
children ages 6 to 16 years old. We offer a full range of general and
specialized recreation programs in order to serve approximately 150
campers every two-week session, at each camp. All programs are intended
to allow the youth we serve to make great strides in building a healthy
spirit, mind and body.
A
summer camp staff position is very demanding - 24 hours a day - making
sure that each child's health , safety and overall welfare needs are
being met. In addition, staff lead activities from arts and crafts to
archery, field games to high adventure, court games to aquatic activities.
This
summer we began ZAP® (Zero Accident Program). At first I was unsure
how the program would be received by the staff, the administrative details
of the program could be overwhelming: weekly reports, updating teams
and maintaining enthusiasm towards the program. I can say I was pleasantly
surprised. With the support from CMA, the administration of the program
was made easy. Our staff embraced the program and seemed to be working
hard towards its success. Often the questions "Who won this week?",
"Did we get to keep all of the prizes?" or "Be careful,
we don't' want to lose a prize?" were herd around camp this summer."
